Review:
A dark and wicked Little Mermaid retelling, or so I thought. They have an interesting story-Lira’s a siren and Elian’s a prince. He was a siren hunter. She was the Princes’ Bane, an infamous princes killer. They were both murderers. The savagery and darkness of the story and the characters spell-bound me, I was so sure this would be a favorite. So much badassery and action, what could go wrong? Well, as the story progressed, it became more and more like a fairytale. The sass was barely there replaced by mushy romance. The plot twist and ending were predictable. The grand battle between human and merfolk was a disappointment. It’s just, it was so wonderful but suddenly lost its magic.

- the Saad(pirate ship) and the crew- I loved the closeness and loyalty of each member, their hilarious bantering and badassery
- Elian’s magical knife and compass
- The hundred kingdoms
- the parallelism to Little Mermaid
